The UK throws away roughly seven million mattresses every year and most are landfilled, where the springs make them almost impossible to compact. It is one of the most wasteful items in the household waste stream, because nearly everything inside a mattress is recoverable.

We collect from the bedroom, not the kerb. Collected mattresses go to specialist processors that strip the steel springs for scrap, the foam for carpet underlay, and the fibres for industrial felt. A double mattress holds about 12.5kg of recoverable steel alone.

Mattress collection questions

Why is mattress recycling a big deal?

Springs make mattresses terrible landfill. They resist compaction and take decades to break down, while the steel, foam and fibre inside are all recyclable. Specialist processors recover most of the material.

Can you take the mattress and the old bed frame together?

Yes, and it is cheaper together. The mattress is £59 as a single item and the frame is £20 as an extra item on the same visit.

Do you collect from upstairs?

Yes, the crew collects from the room it is in. Stairs without a lift are £20 per flight.
